Sir David Attenborough: The Truth About Climate Change

The legendary broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough was long unsure about the causes of the observed climate warming. In his documentary, The Truth About Climate Change, he sheds doubt and explains what convinced him. Climate models based on purely natural processes such as solar activity and volcanic eruptions fail to explain the observed change in Earth’s climate in the latter part of the 20th century. Models factoring in the human impact, that is, the increase of carbon dioxide in the athmosphere, depict the transpired warming accurately, however.

Nightversionn, still you evade the question. Can you explain why CO2, which overlaps in a minor way spectrally with water which controls all other aspects of climate, can dominate. And why do models popularly depict the incorrect coincidence of Earth’s black body signature with the absorption of CO2, ( which, incidentally, overlaps with water vapour anyway)?

    Abstract
Two natural components of the currently progressing climate change are identified. The first one is an almost linear global temperature increase of about 0.5°C/100 years, which seems to have started in 1800–1850, at least one hundred years before 1946 when manmade CO2 in the atmosphere began to increase rapidly.”

“Most glaciers around the world (alpine and Greenland ice-sheet glaciers) have been melting as part of the long-term warming trend since the end of the Little Ice Age in the 1700s The recession of glaciers started long before anthropogenic CO2 levels rose. Since the IPCC says that anthropogenic CO2-based warming has only had an effect since the 1970s the recession of glaciers cannot be due to anthropogenic CO2-based global warming.”

Nice one david222444. Every description I’ve read about the importance of CO2 as a greenhouse gas has ‘strangely’ suggested that it’s potency lies in the fact that it absorbs infrared at the peak wavelength of Earth’s black body emissions and quotes this peak at 15um or 600cm-1. This is the peak of a black body at 193K, or -80deg C. Also ‘for clarity’ water is omitted. The black body peak for the Earth’s mean temperature of 15degC, 288K, is 10um. Check it yourself via black body spectrum, Wien
